Before You Start

Before enrolling in the lifeguard certification course, there are a few important requirements to ensure you're ready for training.

Age Requirement
 
You must be at least 15 years old at the start of the course to be eligible for certification.
Swimming Skills Test
 
A swimming assessment is required to confirm that you have the confidence and ability to assist others in the water safely.
Physical Readiness
 
Lifeguarding requires stamina and strength, so be prepared for physically demanding activities, including timed swims and rescue drills.
Commitment to Learning
 
These courses are intensive and require focus, but they also encourage teamwork and enthusiasm to make learning both effective and enjoyable.

ARC Lifeguard certification review swimming

For a lifeguard certification review, you will need to provide proof of your current ARC lifeguard certification. Prerequisites: ✔ Swim 300 yards continuously on your front. Googles may be used. ✔ Tread water using legs only for 2 minutes (hands under armpits). ✔ Complete the following in 1min 40secs: Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10ft to retrieve a 10lb object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards to the starting point with both hands holding the object. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

ARC Lifeguard instructor course

Prerequisites: ✔ Be at least 17 years old on or before the final session of the course. ✔ Hold basic certification in lifeguarding/first aid/CPR/AED. ✔ Complete an online introduction to the Lifeguard Instructor course before the pre course skills session. ✔ Obtain all course participant materials before the first session of the Instructor course.
